Welcome to my
English Opening
game (ECO A15) with Timothy A. Nalepa page!
On this page I have posted one my chess games in which I played the
White side of the
English
Opening . The game includes analysis and diagrams. This game is one of
my old correspondence chess games from 1996. To be honest, I don't know why
he resigned on move 20. My opponent's over the board rating at the start of
this game was 1844. This game started off as the Anglo-Indian defense
against the English opening and transposed into the Botvinnik system.
Correspondence Chess Game
Section 96UA15
Game Played 28 October 1996 to 30 July 1997
White: Mike Serovey (1865) Black: Timothy A. Nalepa (1948)
1. c4 Nf6 2. g3 g6 3. Bg2 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. Ne2 c5 6. O-O
O-O 7. Nbc3 Nc6

Normally, I would play d3 followed by h3 here but I
decided to vary from that for some reason that I no longer remember.
8. f4 Be6

Playing 9. f5 looks interesting. Playing d3 and h3 are
also good moves. The Knight normally goes to d5 in this opening so I decided
to play it now.
9. Nd5 Qd7 10. d3 Bh3 11. Nxf6+ Bxf6 12. Bxh3 Qxh3 13.
f5 g5

White's kingside attack has stalled out and he now needs
to move the action to somewhere else. First, however, he has to deal with
the Black Queen on h3.
14. Nc3 Bd4+ 15. Kh1 h6 16. Qe2 Be5 17. Qg2 Qxg2+ 18.
Kxg2 Nb4 19. Rd1 e6

Black has the lead in development and wants to open this
game up. I have no idea why my next move caused Black to resign.
20. h4 1-0
