On this page I have posted one my chess games in which I played the White side of the English Opening . The game includes analysis and diagrams. This is one of my games played at Stan's Net Chess. The ratings for each player are for those at the end of the game.

1. c4 Nf6 2. Nc3 e6 3. g3 a6

English opening after 3... a6.

I don't know if Black's last move was a bad one or not but it was unexpected. It looks like he wants to get b5 in.

4. Bg2 c6 5. a4 Bb4 6. e4 e5 7. Nge2 d6 8. h3 Be6

English opening after 8... Be6.

White's next move is a case of chess blindness. I had a plan in mind and failed to notice if Black was making any threats that forced me to alter my move order.

9. O-O? Bxc4 10. d3 Be6 11. d4 Bc4? 12. dxe5! Bxc3 13. bxc3

English opening after 13. bxc3.

If Black captures on e5 he loses the right to castle after 14. Qxd8+ Kxd8. By moving the Knight at f6 he loses a pawn instead.

Nfd7 14. exd6 O-O 15. Re1 Ne5

English opening after 15... Ne5.

I played 16. Nf4 mainly to keep the Black Knight off d3.

16. Nf4 Nbd7 17. Ba3 Nf6 18. Qd4 Re8

English opening after 18... Re8.

Both sides have actively placed pieces. White has a passed pawn on the d file. White's next move looks like a sacrifice but he gets his Knight back and opens up the Center.

19. Nd5 cxd5 20. exd5 Rc8 21. Rxe5 Rxe5 22. Qxe5 Nd7

English opening after 22... Nd7.

White is now up doubled passed pawns in the Center. Black blocks the advance of those pawns with his Knight but White has a plan to press the initiative.

23. Qe7 Nf6 24. Qxb7 (White is now up 3 pawns.) Rb8 25. Qa7 Nxd5 26. d7 Nf6

English opening after 26... Nf6.

White's next move is hard to find unless you remember that the Black Queen is protecting the Black Rook.

27. Be7!! Qxe7 28. Qxb8+ 1-0

English opening after 28... Qxb8+ (Final position).

Black is already down material and can't stop white from queening his pawn on the next move.
