Welcome to my Sicilian Defense (ECO B22) game with kato page!

On this page I have posted one my chess games in the Closed Variation of the Sicilian Defense. This is a miniature (quick win) because Black violated a few opening principles. This is the only time that I have played Kato so far. Although down material, Black could have played this one out more. I published this game as an example of how not to play against the Sicilian defense!

Closed Sicilian after 5.Ng5?

Here is where White violated the first opening principle, never move a piece twice in the opening until you have completed your development. There are exceptions in which moving a piece twice is acceptable, but this is not one of them. White misses the threat to the Knight after Black's next move and drops the Knight, his first outright blunder.

Black's Queen is out early because it captured a Knight. The Black Queen was threatening to capture on g2 but 7.O-O takes care of that and avoids playing the White Queen out too early.

Black has a better pawn structure after 9.bxc4 and is still up material. It is easy to win when you opponent hands you his pieces like this! Black is up material and now blunders away his Queen! This is one of the dangers of playing weak players. It is easy to get over confident and blunder by not paying attention to your opponent's few good moves!

9. d3 Ne5?? 10. Bxg5!! 1-0

Black has a Bishop and Knight for his Queen. Considering how weak White was Black probably should have played this one out some more. I have had other games in which I was up winning material and blundered on one move giving my opponent a stalemate! I still think that in the case of a stalemate the side that is up material should be declared the winner and not a draw.
