Welcome to my
Réti Opening game with Glen Jackson page!
On this page I have posted one my chess games in which I played the
White side of the
Réti Opening.
The game includes analysis and diagrams.
Giessen Depot Championship
Giessen, Germany
Round 2
White: Mike Serovey Black: Glen Jackson
1. Nf3 Nf6 2. g3 d5 3. c4 e6 4. Bg2 c6 5. b3

Glen Liked to play the
Nimzo-Indian Defense and I liked to play the
Réti
and
English and often transposed from one to the other. This position was typical of our games.
Nbd7 6. O-O Bd6 7. Bb2 O-O

Now White has the double fianchetto and is threatening to open the Center
with d4 and e4. I think that Black's position is rather passive.
8. d4 Re8 9. Nc3 b6 10. cxd5 exd5 11. Re1 Ne4

White was planning to open up the Center with e4 so Black stops it with
this move. White has the lead in development here and so is better.
12. Nd2 Ndf6 13. Ndxe4 Nxe4 14. Nxe4 dxe4 15. Qc2 Bb4 16. Rec1 Qe7 17. Qxc6

White has won a Pawn and has more active pieces than Black.
Bb7 18. Qc2 Rac8 19. Qd1 h6 20. a3 Rxc1 21. Bxc1 Bd6 22. b4 Rd8 23. e3 Bb8 24. Bd2 b5 25. Rc1 Bd6 26. Qb3 Bd5

White has a Rook on the open c file and can win the Bishop for 2 Pawns.
Black makes this sacrifice to open up White's Kingside and expose White's King. I decided to accept the sacrifice.
27. Qxd5 Bxg3 28. Qxe4 Bxh2+ 29. Kxh2 Qd6+ 30. Kg1 a6

Now I'm up 2 Bishops so Black's sacrifice was unsound. He decided to play it out anyway.
31. Rc6 Qb8 32. Rxa6 h5 33. Ra8

Forcing the exchange of Rooks when I'm up material. Black decides to drop more material instead!
Qxa8 34. Qxa8 Rf8 35. Qxf8+ Kxf8

Now I'm up 2 Bishops and a Pawn. Glen makes me play it out anyway for
some reason. I goofed up my notation on my score pad and thus do not have
the exact win posted below.
36. Bc6 g5 37. Bxb5 Ke7 38. a4 f5 39. Be2 h4 40. f3 Ke6
41. e4 fxe4 42. Bxg5 h3 43. fxe4 Kd6 44. Bf1 Ke6 45. Bxh3+ Kd6 46. Bf1 Kc7
47. Bf4+ Kc6 48. a5 Kb7 49. b5 Kc8 50. Bc4 Kb7 51. a6+ Ka7 52. b6+ Ka8 53.
b7+ Ka7 54. b8=Q# 1-0
