Mike Serovey On Chess

Welcome to my Gedult-Gunderam game with  Glen Jackson page!

On this page I have posted one my chess games in which I played the White side of the Gedult-Gunderam Opening. This is an unorthodox opening that gave many of my opponents fits. The game includes analysis and diagrams.

Giessen Area Championship
Giessen, Germany
Round 3
12 April 1986
White: Mike Serovey   Black: Glen Jackson

1. d4 Nf6 2. f3 e6 3. g4 d5 4. Bf4 Nbd7 5. e3 c5 6. c3 cxd4 7. cxd4 Bb4+ 8. Kf2 O-O

Gedult-Gunderam after 8... O-O

This really isn't as bad for White as it looks! This position is "book".

9. Bd3 Re8 10. h4 Nf8 11. Ne2 Ng6 12. Bg3 Bd6

Gedult-Gunderam after 12... Bd6

Still "book" and White is Ok to exchange Bishops here. White plays a rather aggressive Kingside attack.

13. h5 Bxg3+ 14. Nxg3 Nf8 15. Nc3 e5

Gedult-Gunderam after 15... e5

Now White has completed his development and can press the Kingside attack.

16. g5 exd4 17. exd4 Ng4+?

Gedult-Gunderam after 17... Ng4+?

An unsound sacrifice. White holds.

18. fxg4 Qxg5 19. Nf5! Bxf5 20. Bxf5 Qf4+ 21. Kg2 Re3 22. Rh3 Rae8 23. Rf3

Gedult-Gunderam after 23. Rf3

Now Black has no attack left and White is OK after the exchange.

Rxf3 24. Qxf3 Qxd4 (The isolated d Pawn will fall later.) 25. Rd1 Qb6 26. Qf2 Qc6 27. Kg1 g6 28. hxg6 hxg6 29. Bc2 Qe6 30. Qd4 Re7 31. Nxd5

Gedult-Gunderam after 31. Nxd5

I'm up a Bishop for a Pawn and Black has no attack left.

Qe2?? (Loses the exchange.)  32. Nxe7+ Qxe7 (Now I'm up a whole Rook! Why did he make me play this one out?) 33. Bb3 (Now I put pressure on f7.)  Qc7 34. Kg2 Qe7 35. Rf1 Ne6 36. Qxa7 Ng5 37. Qb8+ Kg7 38. Qf4 Ne6? 39. Qe5+! Kg8 40. Bxe6 fxe6 41. Rf6  1-0

Gedult-Gunderam after 41. Rf6 (Final position)

Many a Pawn has to fall. But, it's all in the game.
